Where we come from
Back in the late 18th century, people of different religious backgrounds, independent of each other and in various areas of the world, began asking questions like:
– Couldn’t we go back beyond denominationalism to the simplicity and purity of the first-century church? Wouldn’t that bring unity among followers of Christ?
– Why not just lay aside the various creeds and human authorities, simply taking the Bible as our authority and continuing faithfully “in the apostles’ teaching…”? (Acts 2:42)
– Wouldn’t planting the same “seed”- the Word of God (Luke 8:11) that first century Christians planted, produce the same harvest of Biblical Christians in our day?
These men were really “ahead of their time,” believing that nothing should be required of Christians except what is clear in the Scriptures. Those who shared those ideals grew in unprecedented numbers and became known as the “Restoration Movement” – seeking to “restore” the church seen in the Bible. We identify with this movement.
We do not consider ourselves a denomination. We are simply members of the Church that Jesus established and for which He died. We believe the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and that the New Testament is the authority in our day and time. We are certainly not the only Christians but we do seek to be Christians only.
Where we're headed
Though we have a foundation in the Biblical first century church we are committed to reaching out to and connecting with our community, to creating passionate disciples of Jesus who know and share the word of truth and are led by leaders committed to the work of the Kingdom.
